Friday Favorites: Highlighters ✨!

Friday Favorites: Highlighters ✨!

Hi All,

When I first got into makeup, I didn’t really know just how amazing adding a highlighter to certain parts of your face really took a makeup look to another level.  I’ve grown a small collection of a few highlighters over the years, and today I’ll be sharing the ones that I absolutely love!

MAC Cosmetics Whisper of Gilt

First up we have MAC Cosmetics’ Whisper of Gilt (unfortunately this is no longer available).  This is the oldest highlighter in my collection, and I’ve kept it around for good reason.  It’s a soft and subtle gold that really makes the high points of my cheeks pop.  I love that it is so fine and there are no chunky bits of glitter in it!

NARS Albatross
Next up, we have  NARS Highlighting Blush Powder in Albatross ($30.00 USD).  This is another highlighter that is extremely fine with no chunks of glitter, but again, leaves a beautiful glow to the skin.  With this one, I have to be extremely light handed with the application as a little goes a long way!  The color that I would describe this highligther as is more of a light gold with a bit of white/ivory to it.  (Also, I apologize for my descriptions if they don’t quite make sense!)

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Eclipse
My next favorite is the Jeffree Star Cosmetics x MannyMUA Skinfrost in Eclipse ($29.00 USD).  This is a favorite of mine more so for the color rather than the texture.  The color is a beautiful peachy pink, and its cooler toned than all other highlighters that I own.  If I’m being completely honest, I’m not a huge fan of the texture of the highlighter though.  It’s the most ‘chunky’ of any that I own and it really brings out the bumpy texture of my skin which I don’t like.  If I had perfectly smooth skin, this would be just great.

MAYBELLINE FaceStudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter
The next highlighter quickly became a favorite of mine, the MAYBELLINE FaceStudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Molten Gold ($9.99 USD).  I’d say it’s fairly close to Whisper of Gilt, but has a stronger gold color payoff when applied.  In the pan it looked like it’d be chunky, but it’s not at all!

Lastly, and newest to my highlighter collection, is WET N WILD MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals ($4.99 USD).  Oh my goodness is this highlighter beautiful; I wish I had purchased it when it first came out! I would describe this one as a pinky gold, and the texture of this is perfection.  I cannot believe how smoothly it appled to my skin and there is no chunkiness to this at all.  I’d say the smooth texture compares to that of the NARS Albatross which is 6x its price 😱!  I’ve only used this three times, but it was love at first swipe!

Are any of these your go-to highlighters?!

Ulta Haul

Ulta Haul

Hi All!

I had to stock up on some essentials, and also wanted to try out some new products.  Ulta was having a sale where many of their products were 30 – 40% off last week, so I thought I’d take advantage of it!  Here are some goodies that I got a hold of!

Re-stocked items:

Real Techniques

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge Set – I personally don’t see a huge difference between an actual Beauty Blender in comparison to the Real Techniques sponges, and you pretty much get 2 RT sponges for the price of 1 Beauty Blender!

Maybelline Eye Studio

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner –  This is my favorite drugstore gel liner.  In my opinion, it compares to MAC Cosmetics’ Blacktrack gel liner which is almost double the price of the Maybelline!

Eylure Vegas Nay Lashes

Eylure Vegas Nay Bronze Beauty Lashes – These are my favorite lashes that I use for my more attempted-glam looks.  They were also half off when I ordered them…score!

L.A. Girl Pro Conceal

L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer in Green – I tend to get redness around my nose sometimes and I like this concealer to cancel that out.

IMG_2590

Batiste Dry Shampoo – It’s my fav.  The end.

New-to-me products:

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent – I’ve heard good things about this and I was on the hunt for a new setting powder, so I’ll be giving this a try!

Real Techniques

Real Techniques Powder Brush – All of the RT products were 40% off, and I’ve wanted to try this brush out for a while so I added it to my cart!

Eylure Vegas Nay Lashes

Eylure Vegas Nay Platinum Princess Lashes – These are fairly similar to the Bronze Beauty lashes, and I just wanted to try something slightly different.

Precious Petals MegaGlo Highlighter

Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals – This has been around since last year I believe, but Wet N Wild released 2 new shades so it’s been popping up again.  I’m most excited to try this product out!

Hopefully you enjoyed this quick little haul.  Are any of these products in your beauty arsenal?

First Impressions: Simple Glam Girls Lush Rose Gold Oval Brush Set

First Impressions: Simple Glam Girls Lush Rose Gold Oval Brush Set

Hi All!

I’m really excited for today’s first impressions as I will be sharing with you my thoughts on a new oval brush set that I received earlier this week!  I was contacted by Simple Glam Girls via Instagram and they asked if I would be interested in trying out their best selling oval makeup brushes, so of course said yes!  I’ve never owned a complete brush set before because, to be quite honest, I’ve never wanted to shell out a bunch of money on an entire set and risk the chance of only using maybe half of the brushes that came with it.

IMG_2116

The brushes arrived in a cute little box and inside was the set of the Lush Rose Gold Oval Makeup 10-piece Brush Set.  Each individual brush was wrapped in it’s own packaging.

Simple Glam Girls Oval Makeup Brushes

Included in the box were 5 larger brushes and 5 smaller brushes.  I haven’t had the chance to use these yet, so this first impressions will be more on the look and feel rather than a first-use type of first impressions.

Right off the bat, I thought that they were really pretty and sleek looking.  I like the combination of the black with rose gold, and I also like how the tops of the brushes are darker so that when makeup is on them, they won’t look dirtied immediately!  They are really light weight as well.  As far as the brush part itself, I’ve never owned a brush like this before – in terms of both shape and feel.  According to their website, they are made of grade “A” synthetic nylon hair.  They are pretty darn soft too, but while still being so densely packed in that they don’t feel flimsy either!

Simple Glam Girls Oval Brush Set

Here are the 5 larger face brushes and what the website describes their use for from left to right.

1) Concealer, cheek blush, cheek contour, foundation, bronzing, and setting powder

2 & 3) Cheek blush, cheek contour, foundation, bronzing, and setting powder.

4 & 5) Foundation, bronzing, and setting powder.

And here are the 5 smaller brushes for the eyes and lips along with what the website describes for these uses from left to right again.

1) Eye shadow, eye liner, concealer, cheek blush, and cheek contour.

2) Eye shadow, cheek contour, concealer, foundation, and setting powder.

3) Eye shadow, brow color, eye liner, and concealer.

4) Lip finish, eye shadow, brow color, and concealer.

5) Lip finish, eye shadow, and concealer.

I’m glad that they have descriptions of the recommended uses, but I think it’s safe to deduce that you can essentially use any brush for how each user sees fit.  I’m excited to test these out!  I’ll be back with a further in depth review once I’ve gotten more familiar with these brushes.

Have you ever tried oval makeup brushes before?!

Quick and Easy Bronzed Eye In 5 Easy Steps!

Quick and Easy Bronzed Eye In 5 Easy Steps!

Hi All!

As I was getting ready the other day, I realized that I didn’t have too much time to put an elaborate makeup look together, but I still wanted to look as if I had put in some effort!  I wanted to share with you how I achieved this quick and easy bronzed eye!  (Because I’m focusing on the eyes, I’ll be sharing eye products only for this post.)

NUDESTIX Magnetic Eye Color

Step 1 – The base that I used for this look is a new-to-me product that I’m still just starting to use (a full review will come once I get more familiar with it), and it’s the NudeStix Magnetic Matte Eye Color in the shade Chocolate.  For this step, I just smudged the pencil on the lower half of my lid and then blended it up and into the crease with a brush to get the color less intense as I got higher up on my lid.

Step 2 – I then took the medium-dark shimmery brown eyeshadow (shade “24/7”) from the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette on my ring finger and tapped it onto my eyelids.

Step 3 – Next, I took the top left eyeshadow (shade “Beam”) and lightly dusted it into the inner corners of my eyes to brighten up the look.

Step 4 – To finish up with the eyeshadows, I took the shade “24/7” again and just smudged it under my lower lash line.

Step 5 – Lastly, I applied the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara in Blackest Black to both my upper and lower lashes, and then some false lashes to my upper and that was it for the eyes!

I honestly was able to do the eyes in about 5 minutes (OK, maybe 7 minutes because I’m a turtle when it comes to putting on false lashes 😆) and I was really happy with how it turned out with using so few products!

You obviously don’t have to use these exact same products, but if you have a creamy brown eyeliner for the base, a bronze eyeshadow, and some mascara, that’s pretty much all you really need for this eye look!

I hope you enjoyed this post!  Would you wear this look?!

Friday Favorites: Drugstore Mascara

Friday Favorites: Drugstore Mascara

Hi All and Happy Friday!

If I were told that I had to get rid of all of my makeup and was only allowed to keep one item, I would hands down choose mascara over everything else!  I love how mascara opens up my eyes and makes me look more awake.  When it comes to drugstore mascara, L’Oreal is my favorite brand, and I use 2 of their mascaras together to create my favorite drugstore lash look.  The mascaras that I use are the Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara and the Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt Mascara – I use both of these in the color Blackest Black and both are in the non-waterproof formulas.

L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes

(L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes in Blackest Black – I use this to get volume and length.)

L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt

(L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt in Blackest Black – I use this to separate the lashes and to darken the base closest to my lash line.  This one gives the appearance that I’ve lined my upper water line, which I normally don’t do because tight lining tends to irritate my contacts.)

So here are the before pictures…

IMG_1392

IMG_1395

To get the look that I like, I apply one coat of the Voluminous Million Lashes followed by one coat of the Voluminous Butterfly Sculpt.  I don’t use a lash primer or anything like that to prep, I just give my lashes a quick little curl so that they have a bit of lift to them.  And here are the after pictures…

IMG_1396

IMG_1397

When I use this combo, I tend to get asked if I’m wearing false lashes, and people are usually surprised when I say no!  It’s crazy what a difference mascara makes in my overall appearance!  These mascaras don’t flake, they don’t run onto my under-eye area, and the curl holds ALL day as neither of the formulas weigh my lashes down.  I know it may be excessive to use 2 different mascaras on a regular basis, but I just love the end result of using both of these products together.

What is your favorite drugstore mascara?!

I hope you have a great weekend!

Complimentary 2017 Birthday Gifts from Ulta and Sephora!

Complimentary 2017 Birthday Gifts from Ulta and Sephora!

Hi All!

I’m finally back in San Diego after having spent the last week on vacation in Portland, OR.  I was visiting family and friends to celebrate my birthday and while I was there I stopped into Ulta and Sephora to get this year’s complimentary birthday gifts from each store!

NYX Cosmetics

First up from Ulta, this year’s gift was an eyeshadow palette from NYX Cosmetics.  I love eyeshadow palettes so I was super excited for this, and then opened it and saw that it was warm toned and I got even more excited!

NYX Cosmetics

I haven’t used NYX eyeshadows for a LONG time, so I couldn’t really remember what to expect.  For my arm swatches, it was pretty hard to get pigmentation to show up for both the matte shades and the shimmer shades.  For the matte shades I had to dip back into the pan at least 3 times and the shimmers at least twice, to get the color to show up on my arm.  When applying it with a brush to my eyes, it went a bit better, but I still had to dip back into each shadow that I used a few times, but in the end it worked out surprisingly well!  I really do like the color selection in the palette.

Tarte Cosmetics

From Sephora, this year’s gift was by Tarte Cosmetics and it was a blush / lip paint set in exclusive shades just for Sephora!  The blush was the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in the shade “Paaarty” and the Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in the shade “Birthday Suit”.  I was most excited for this gift because I am a huge fan of Tarte’s blushes and lip paints.  The shades are awesome because they are both pretty neutral toned which is what I would normally gravitate towards anyway, so that was a huge plus as I know I will get a lot of use out of these mini products!  I have used a couple other Amazonian Clay blushes so I know that the formula is long lasting and very pigmented on my skin, and “Paaarty” was just as great!  For the lippie, I’ve only ever tried Tarte’s Quick Dry Matte Lip Paints (and I love those) so I was excited to try the Creamy Matte Lip Paint.  As expected the Creamy Matte Lip Paint was not as drying on my lips as the Quick Dry, so if you’ve been wanting to try these out but are worried about dry lips, definitely give the Creamy Matte a try!

I’m very happy with both Ulta and Sephora’s birthday gifts this year!  If your local Ulta or Sephora have these in stock around your birthday, I definitely recommend you stopping by to pick them up!  I’m going to try to post some looks on my Instagram as I get to play with these products a bit more, so check me out there if you haven’t already!

Also, Happy Birthday to any of my fellow July babies out there!

Lauren

Travel Beauty Essentials

Travel Beauty Essentials

Hi All!

I am writing today’s post from Portland, OR as I’m currently on vacation visiting friends and family here!  I wanted to quickly share the beauty essentials that I brought along with me.

Hair Product:

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Other than standard shampoo and conditioner, the hair item that I must have with me at all times is dry shampoo.  This Batiste Original is hands down the one that I reach for the most as it takes away the greasiness without leaving behind any filmy layer or white residue.  I also love that it comes in a convenient travel sized option for trips!

Face Products:

IMG_0225

I tried to limit myself with how many makeup products that I brought with me, but when it comes to makeup, THE LIMIT DOES NOT EXIST!

Face primer: Rimmel Stay Matte Primer

Concealer: Cover FX Correct Click Color Corrector in Orange

Foundation: Chanel CC Cream

Blush: MAC Cosmetics Powder Blush in Harmony

Face setting powder: Ulta Finishing Powder in Banana

Bronzer: Laura Mercier Bronzed Press Powder in Dune Bronze

Highlighter: Maybelline FaceStudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Molten Gold

Eye Products:img_0226

Eyeshadow Primer: NARS Pro Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base

Eyeshadow palette: OF COURSE it’s the Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Palette

Mascara: L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara in Blackest Black

Eye Liner: L’Oreal Infallible Super Slim Liquid Eye Liner in Black

Lip Products: IMG_0227

I am obsessed with Tarte lip products at the moment, and these 3 times were a must for this trip!

Lip liner: Tarteist Lip Crayon in Latergram

Liquid lipstick: Tartest Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint in Festival

Lip Balm: Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Lip Rescue in Nude

The Vaseline Lip Therapy in Cocoa Butter is a product that I absolutely cannot live without.  My lips get dry very easily so I prefer to apply this every morning and night in order to prevent cracking.

Skincare:IMG_0224

I’m still working my way through the Estée Lauder skincare products that I did a first impressions on last month (check it out here if you’re interested)!  My thoughts have not changed too much from my first impressions, but I’m going to use everything up so that’s why I brought it all along with me!

Serum: Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II

Eye Cream: Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye

Day Moisturizer: Estée Lauder Daywear Matte

Night Moisturizer: Estée Lauder NightWear Plus

I apply sunscreen after my daytime moisturizer and before I apply my CC cream, and I’ve really been liking the Neutrogena Clear Face Liquid-Lotion Sunblock in SPF 55.

Do I have any beauty essentials similar to what you bring along on your trips?!

Lauren
