#IWantKandee

#IWantKandee

Hi All,

Another one of the YouTubers that I’ve watched for many years is the gorgeous Kandee Johnson.  She appears to be such a kind individual, a very talented makeup artist, and just an all around awesome person!  I was so excited to hear that she was working on her own line of products with Too Faced cosmetics (there are too many of these awesome collabs happening!) and knew this was yet another must-have launch that I’d keep my eye on.  While I wish I could’ve purchased the whole line, there were 2 items that I was lucky enough to get my hands on that I’ll be sharing today!  (Note – both of these items sold out the day of the release, so I unfortunately have not linked them to this post 😔.)

The #iwantkandee collection included 4 liquid lipsticks, a setting powder, an eyeliner, and an eyeshadow palette.  I’ve never tried anything from Too Faced before, and because I am a fan of Kandee’s, I knew that this would be a good time to try out the line.  The first item that I purchased was the liquid lipstick in the shade Freshly Baked.

Too Faced Freshly Baked

I’ve heard mixed reviews of Too Faced’s matte liquid lipsticks, but I loved the color that I saw online of this shade so thought I’d give it a shot.  I’d like to first mention that this liquid lipstick smells AMAZING!  Obviously the theme of this line was candy focused, and the scent to this is such a pleasant, sweet smell.  I personally smell sugary cookies, but I’ve seen reviews that other people have smelled cotton candy or other types of sweets too!  I got it on Friday and tried it out on Saturday so I just have my initial thoughts on it so far.  The color is beautiful, but it’s a bit too cool toned for an everyday lip color for my taste.  It’s very pigmented and I didn’t even have to re-dip the wand to get my lips fully covered.  I didn’t find the formula to be as drying as some of the negative reviews that I’ve read, so I was very pleased with that.  The feature that I was happiest with was how long lasting this product is.  I put it on at around 1pm, went about my day, drank liquids, had some dinner,  and by about 8pm when I got back home my lips were still tinted with color!  I only have the Tarteist liquid lipsticks to compare to so for my experience, Too Faced is definitely longer lasting.  Here is a color swatch of what Freshly Baked looks like on my hand.

The other product that I purchased was the setting powder from the collection called Banana Pudding.  Kandee Johnson is known for having flawless skin with her makeup looks, so this was the product that I most wanted.  I mean, if a person whose skin looks amazing in all of her makeup looks comes out with a product described to also give you flawless skin – it’s a must have in my book!

Too Faced Banana Pudding

Again, this product smells so good, but this time being banana scented.  It’s really interesting because the powder is mainly yellow (to be used for brightening) but it’s also made up of a bunch of other color correcting pigments as well including pink, purple, and green.  I also used this on Saturday and really liked it.  It didn’t make my under-eye area look cakey nor did it crease through the day!

Too Faced Banana Pudding

And in good ole’ Ulta fashion with its awesome perks, with any Too Faced purchase of $35.00 or more, they sent out this adorable makeup pouch including a free sample size of their Better Than Sex Mascara.  I was very happy about this because I’ve never tried this very popular mascara before, so I’d like to see how it performs against the L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara which I do own.

Were any of you able to get your hands on the #IWantKandee collection?  I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

Checked Off My Wishlist ✅: ABH Modern Renaissance Palette

Checked Off My Wishlist ✅: ABH Modern Renaissance Palette

Hi All!

I’m really late to the game with getting my hands on this item, but I’m happy to report that I’ve FINALLY added the Anastasia of Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette to my collection 🎉!  I don’t know why it took me so long to dive in and purchase this palette because the warm tones are right up my alley and I’ve heard nothing but positive reviews about these eyeshadows, but as they say, better late than never!

If you haven’t seen this palette yet, here are a couple of pictures of the packaging and the shadows themselves!

Modern Renaissance

I like the soft feel of the outside of the palette, BUT it got dirty the first time that I used it while applying my makeup.

Modern Renaissance

The shadows are SO pigmented, but they do have the most fall out of any shadow that I’ve ever used, but it really will not deter me from using the shadows at all.  I just have to be sure to tap the brush well prior to applying the shadows to my eyes.  Also, these really do blend like a dream!  My favorite shades so far are Burnt Orange, Primavera, Antique Bronze, and Realgar.

I really do like the brush that is included in the palette as well.  Overall, I’ve got nothing but love for this palette!

Here is a quick look that I wore last weekend using this palette 😀!

I used the Eylure Vegas Nay Platinum Princess Lashes for this look.

Do you own this palette and, if so, are you a fan of it?  Have a great weekend everyone!

Unboxing: Dose of Colors DESI x KATY Collection

Unboxing: Dose of Colors DESI x KATY Collection

Hi All!

I am so excited because my recent Dose of Colors order has arrived!  Dose of Colors recently launched a collab with YouTubers DesiPerkins and LustreLux (2 of the YouTubers that I’ve watched for years!) and I knew that this was another collab that I could not miss out on.  I like both of their makeup styles and the types of looks that they both tend to gravitate towards, so I knew that I’d be a fan of whatever they came out with.  I haven’t ever purchased any Dose of Colors products before, not because I haven’t had my eye on anything, but because I’m not a huge fan of purchasing items without having ever seen a single thing from the product line in person, but I thought why not for a special collection release!

IMG_2791

I ordered 3 of 8 items from the collection and they came in this nude box.  I love the box it was shipped in, I love the boxes that each item came in, and I love the packaging of the products themselves!

I was very happy that all of the products were well protected within layers of bubble wrap, as I’ve heard that some companies don’t even bother to protect the items that are being shipped out…yikes!  Here are the items that I purchased!

First up, the item that I was most excited for, was the lipgloss in the shade “Over the Top”.  It is BEAUTIFUL in person!  In the packaging, and even on my swatch below, it looks like the gold flecks would be very in-your-face and possibly tacky looking, but it’s not at all.  It’s very subtle and just makes your lips look very glossy in a pretty way.  I wore it briefly and so far it’s very comfortable on the lips (not too chunky or sticky), it smells like vanilla – yum, but I can slightly feel the gold flecks if I rub my lips together but it does not bother me at all.

Up next, I ordered the lipstick in the shade “More Creamer Please”.  This is described as a deeper nude with a brown/peach undertone, and I mainly wanted this because I don’t own any other colors like it.  I’m not exactly sure how I feel about it just yet because it pulls VERY orange on me, especially when applied to my lips, but the formula is very nice and comfortable and it also has a nice vanilla-y scent to it!

Lastly, I ordered the highlighter in the shade “Mírame”, again for the reason that I don’t have anything like this in my collection.  I’ve heard this described as a rose gold highlighter meant for users with deeper skin tones, and they weren’t kidding.  For some reason I thought I’d be able to pull it off, but I definitely cannot lol!  I did try it on, and while it did look great from the side, it gave me the dark cast on my cheek bone when I looked straight forward.  It is a BEAUTIFUL highlighter though, but I will either probably use it as an eyeshadow OR give it to my sister who would look great with this!

This was yet another collection that sold out the day of the launch, but I’ve read that the restock for all items should happen at some point in September if anyone is interested!  I hope you enjoyed this quick unboxing.  Please do let me know if any of you have ordered items from this collab and what you thought of it!

My Go-to Under Eye Combo

My Go-to Under Eye Combo

Hi All!

I have recently discovered a new concealer and setting powder combo that I have been LOVING for my under eye area, and both products are by IT Cosmetics.  I don’t know much about this brand as I haven’t used many of their products in the past, but I purchased these items quite some time ago after hearing so many good things about them, and I have nothing but positive things to say about these two products!

I don’t have major under eye issues – I don’t have huge bags nor do I get extreme blue circles, but I have noticed that as I’ve gotten older, I do get a bit of darkness in that area that can make me look more tired than I actually am if it’s not covered up properly.  After I’ve primed my face, my new go-to under eye concealer has been the Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer ($24.00 USD) and I am in the shade light.

Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer

This concealer is marketed on Ulta’s website as being full coverage, anti-aging, and supposedly never creases.  I can’t speak much for the anti-aging aspect, but it for sure is full coverage and does not crease on me either!  A little bit (and I mean little) goes a long way with this, so I cannot see myself running out of this tube in a year’s time even if I were to use it every single day!  I was recommended to purchase the lightest shade offered, shade Light, and this concealer does a beautiful job of brightening up my under eye area.

Once I’ve applied the concealer and all other face products, I’ll immediately set the under eye area with IT Cosmetics’ Bye Bye Pores Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder ($29.00 USD) in the shade Translucent.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder

I don’t think this is meant specifically for setting the under eye area, but it works great for me so I’m going to continue on with it!  I have not noticed my under eye creasing at all when I use these two products together.  It’s an extremely finely milled pressed powder that is meant for blurring pores and imperfections.  When I use it on other parts of my face where my pores are actually larger, I do notice that it does a pretty decent job at blurring them, but does not make my pores “disappear” completely (I’m still on the hunt for that miracle makeup product)!

Have you tried either of these products?!

Lauren

Friday Favorites: Highlighters ✨!

Friday Favorites: Highlighters ✨!

Hi All,

When I first got into makeup, I didn’t really know just how amazing adding a highlighter to certain parts of your face really took a makeup look to another level.  I’ve grown a small collection of a few highlighters over the years, and today I’ll be sharing the ones that I absolutely love!

MAC Cosmetics Whisper of Gilt

First up we have MAC Cosmetics’ Whisper of Gilt (unfortunately this is no longer available).  This is the oldest highlighter in my collection, and I’ve kept it around for good reason.  It’s a soft and subtle gold that really makes the high points of my cheeks pop.  I love that it is so fine and there are no chunky bits of glitter in it!

NARS Albatross
Next up, we have  NARS Highlighting Blush Powder in Albatross ($30.00 USD).  This is another highlighter that is extremely fine with no chunks of glitter, but again, leaves a beautiful glow to the skin.  With this one, I have to be extremely light handed with the application as a little goes a long way!  The color that I would describe this highligther as is more of a light gold with a bit of white/ivory to it.  (Also, I apologize for my descriptions if they don’t quite make sense!)

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Eclipse
My next favorite is the Jeffree Star Cosmetics x MannyMUA Skinfrost in Eclipse ($29.00 USD).  This is a favorite of mine more so for the color rather than the texture.  The color is a beautiful peachy pink, and its cooler toned than all other highlighters that I own.  If I’m being completely honest, I’m not a huge fan of the texture of the highlighter though.  It’s the most ‘chunky’ of any that I own and it really brings out the bumpy texture of my skin which I don’t like.  If I had perfectly smooth skin, this would be just great.

MAYBELLINE FaceStudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter
The next highlighter quickly became a favorite of mine, the MAYBELLINE FaceStudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Molten Gold ($9.99 USD).  I’d say it’s fairly close to Whisper of Gilt, but has a stronger gold color payoff when applied.  In the pan it looked like it’d be chunky, but it’s not at all!

IMG_2652
Lastly, and newest to my highlighter collection, is WET N WILD MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals ($4.99 USD).  Oh my goodness is this highlighter beautiful; I wish I had purchased it when it first came out! I would describe this one as a pinky gold, and the texture of this is perfection.  I cannot believe how smoothly it appled to my skin and there is no chunkiness to this at all.  I’d say the smooth texture compares to that of the NARS Albatross which is 6x its price 😱!  I’ve only used this three times, but it was love at first swipe!

Are any of these your go-to highlighters?!

Ulta Haul

Ulta Haul

Hi All!

I had to stock up on some essentials, and also wanted to try out some new products.  Ulta was having a sale where many of their products were 30 – 40% off last week, so I thought I’d take advantage of it!  Here are some goodies that I got a hold of!

Re-stocked items:

Real Techniques

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge Set – I personally don’t see a huge difference between an actual Beauty Blender in comparison to the Real Techniques sponges, and you pretty much get 2 RT sponges for the price of 1 Beauty Blender!

Maybelline Eye Studio

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner –  This is my favorite drugstore gel liner.  In my opinion, it compares to MAC Cosmetics’ Blacktrack gel liner which is almost double the price of the Maybelline!

Eylure Vegas Nay Lashes

Eylure Vegas Nay Bronze Beauty Lashes – These are my favorite lashes that I use for my more attempted-glam looks.  They were also half off when I ordered them…score!

L.A. Girl Pro Conceal

L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer in Green – I tend to get redness around my nose sometimes and I like this concealer to cancel that out.

IMG_2590

Batiste Dry Shampoo – It’s my fav.  The end.

New-to-me products:

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent – I’ve heard good things about this and I was on the hunt for a new setting powder, so I’ll be giving this a try!

Real Techniques

Real Techniques Powder Brush – All of the RT products were 40% off, and I’ve wanted to try this brush out for a while so I added it to my cart!

Eylure Vegas Nay Lashes

Eylure Vegas Nay Platinum Princess Lashes – These are fairly similar to the Bronze Beauty lashes, and I just wanted to try something slightly different.

Precious Petals MegaGlo Highlighter

Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals – This has been around since last year I believe, but Wet N Wild released 2 new shades so it’s been popping up again.  I’m most excited to try this product out!

Hopefully you enjoyed this quick little haul.  Are any of these products in your beauty arsenal?

Lauren

First Impressions: Simple Glam Girls Lush Rose Gold Oval Brush Set

First Impressions: Simple Glam Girls Lush Rose Gold Oval Brush Set

Hi All!

I’m really excited for today’s first impressions as I will be sharing with you my thoughts on a new oval brush set that I received earlier this week!  I was contacted by Simple Glam Girls via Instagram and they asked if I would be interested in trying out their best selling oval makeup brushes, so of course said yes!  I’ve never owned a complete brush set before because, to be quite honest, I’ve never wanted to shell out a bunch of money on an entire set and risk the chance of only using maybe half of the brushes that came with it.

IMG_2116

The brushes arrived in a cute little box and inside was the set of the Lush Rose Gold Oval Makeup 10-piece Brush Set.  Each individual brush was wrapped in it’s own packaging.

Simple Glam Girls Oval Makeup Brushes

Included in the box were 5 larger brushes and 5 smaller brushes.  I haven’t had the chance to use these yet, so this first impressions will be more on the look and feel rather than a first-use type of first impressions.

Right off the bat, I thought that they were really pretty and sleek looking.  I like the combination of the black with rose gold, and I also like how the tops of the brushes are darker so that when makeup is on them, they won’t look dirtied immediately!  They are really light weight as well.  As far as the brush part itself, I’ve never owned a brush like this before – in terms of both shape and feel.  According to their website, they are made of grade “A” synthetic nylon hair.  They are pretty darn soft too, but while still being so densely packed in that they don’t feel flimsy either!

Simple Glam Girls Oval Brush Set

Here are the 5 larger face brushes and what the website describes their use for from left to right.

1) Concealer, cheek blush, cheek contour, foundation, bronzing, and setting powder

2 & 3) Cheek blush, cheek contour, foundation, bronzing, and setting powder.

4 & 5) Foundation, bronzing, and setting powder.

Simple Glam Girls Oval Brush Set

And here are the 5 smaller brushes for the eyes and lips along with what the website describes for these uses from left to right again.

1) Eye shadow, eye liner, concealer, cheek blush, and cheek contour.

2) Eye shadow, cheek contour, concealer, foundation, and setting powder.

3) Eye shadow, brow color, eye liner, and concealer.

4) Lip finish, eye shadow, brow color, and concealer.

5) Lip finish, eye shadow, and concealer.

I’m glad that they have descriptions of the recommended uses, but I think it’s safe to deduce that you can essentially use any brush for how each user sees fit.  I’m excited to test these out!  I’ll be back with a further in depth review once I’ve gotten more familiar with these brushes.

Have you ever tried oval makeup brushes before?!

Lauren
